VEGAN MATCHA LATTE

VEGAN / GLUTEN-FREE / SATTVIC

I discovered matcha recently and fell in love. Matcha is just powdered green tea, which happens to have way more antioxidants than drinking steeped green tea alone. If like me, you are sensitive to caffeine, opt for a decaf version that still retains all the sought-after health benefits. When making matcha or green tea, you want to use hot (not boiling) water as this will preserve nutrients and avoid any bitter taste. This means aim for no hotter than 170F. Ceremonial grade matcha is best if you can get it. Ground sencha tea will also work.

Serves 1

INGREDIENTS

1 cup of dairy-free milk (I like to use almond), heated

1 heaping tsp of matcha powder

1/2 of 1/4 cup filtered hot water

1-2 tsp of maple syrup or agave (optional)

* for a creamier latte, add in a splash of canned coconut milk

INSTRUCTIONS

Place powdered matcha into your preferred mug. Slowly pour in heated water and stir using a matcha whisk, milk frother, or fork (although this last option will not make a frothy latte). Once incorporated add in heated milk of choice along with sweetener if using, and whisk away until frothy. Enjoy!
